Mark Lembke is the Director of Events for the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission (GCSC), whose goal is to make Greater Cleveland the nation’s foremost destination for amateur sporting events and activities. The organization is responsible for attracting, promoting and managing major amateur athletic events and creating sporting opportunities for youth and amateur athletes.
A native of the Cleveland area, Mark graduated from Ohio University, located in Athens, Ohio with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Industry and a minor in Business Administration. While at the university, he worked in the Facilities Department and helped run events such as Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Men’s Wrestling and the 2006 Men’s MAC Swimming & Diving Championships.
In August of 2006, Mark began his career at the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission as an Events Intern. During this internship, he helped to organize, plan and run several different events. Due to his success on these events, Mark was asked to remain at the Sports Commission to work as the Tournament Coordinator for the Continental Cup International Youth Soccer Tournament. Mark’s involvement in the Sports Commission proved invaluable and he was soon after a part of the full-time staff.
As Event Manager, Mark works with the SR. VP of Event Management and the Event Coordinators to ensure the success of each event. Since he began, Mark has been responsible for planning GCSC events such as the FirstMerit Patriot Bowl, Continental Cup International Youth Sports Festival, US Open Wrestling National Championship and various NCAA Championships. He also is responsible for the recruitment and management of the volunteer program.
Mark currently resides in Bay Village, Ohio, with his wife Rebecca, his daughter Kaitlyn and son Brayden. He enjoys playing sports in his free time, hanging out with his friends and is also an avid Cleveland sports fan and loves watching the Indians, Browns and Cavaliers.
